Conserving Conservatism

Conservative values are important, and in fact, that's what I want for my family. However, it seems that the way we as Christians are going about conservative moral reform isn't making much sense.
When the case for moral values is broken down, it simply comes down to "because the Bible says so." That doesn't matter to a person who disregards the Bible. Real change isn't going to be political change, but rather spiritual change. The battle for conservative values will be won once we start emphasizing evangelism over debates and legislation. This means putting more time and prayer into winning souls than we do in political reform. I'm not saying to stay out of politics, nor I'm I saying they don't matter. What I am saying though is don't let politics trump evangelism. Let's look at a biblical example.
Romans 1:16-18

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Paul's emphatic declaration of his zeal to preach the Gospel in Romans 1:16 was rooted in the fact that the Gospel is the only answer to the desperate need every person has. The Gospel is God's power to save, because as verse eighteen explains, the unbelieving has God's wrath waiting for them because the payment for their sin has not yet been satisfied due to it not being accepted. For every person who dies in their sins, is a person who will have to personally pay the penalty for their sins in hell eternally.

The reason Paul wasn't ashamed of preaching the Gospel with boldness, is because it is the ONLY message that could liberate a person bound in sin. Sharing what Jesus has done will make a bigger impact on those who don't know Christ, because that is their greatest need. Their greatest need isn't embracing a moral lifestyle, or adopting conservative values, but accepting Christ! Once a person trusts Christ, there will be change. At that point, it'll make sense for them to obey the Bible. When people start becoming followers of God, then we'll see this nation follow God.
